Comprehensive Exams

In order to keep good oral health, it is vital to regularly attend check-ups at your Tulsa dentist. Through these comfortable and painless exams, Dr. Jelsing is able to help you maintain healthy teeth and gums. She uses this time to identify any potential problems and prevent them from turning into big issues – saving you both time and money.

A typical exam includes:

  • Discussion about your health history
  • Knee to knee care (where we get to know you better)
  • Comprehensive exam of your teeth, gums, and mouth
  • TMJ evaluation
  • X-rays (if applicable)

Each exam is performed using the latest technology including intraoral cameras and digital x-rays. These give us high-definition images of your mouth and allow us to diagnose problems earlier. We’ll also look for any cavities, check your previous dental work, and answer any questions you may have.

Periodontal Maintenance

Periodontal disease (aka gum disease) relates to the infection of your gum tissue caused by plaque or decay. If left untreated this disease can spread and cause serious health issues:

  • Bleeding and inflamed gums
  • Tooth sensitivity
  • Tooth loss
  • Heart disease
  • Stroke

Dr. Jelsing and the hygiene team are renowned for their skill and knowledge in this area of dentistry. Therefore, we can help reduce the impact of the disease and return your gums to a healthy state.

Through regular cleanings, daily brushing/flossing, and dental check-ups, our team can help you prevent periodontal disease. We’ll assess your brushing and flossing technique, identify any areas of concerns, and help you achieve a solid at-home routine. For example, by avoiding tobacco, stress, teeth grinding, and poor nutrition, you can take a huge leap toward healthy gums.

Oral Cancer Screenings

Your oral health can have a real impact on your overall well-being. For that reason, Dr. Jelsing offers annual oral cancer screenings to our communities. These screenings are vital to the early diagnosis of cancer, which has claimed the lives of many Americans. We encourage all patients to schedule an oral cancer screening to ensure your health.

During a screening, Dr. Jelsing uses technology to look around your mouth and assess your gum tissue. She is looking for common signs of cancer such as:

  • Red or white patches
  • Raised lesions
  • Unexplained bumps
  • Bleeding of the gums

If your dentist finds these, she will perform a biopsy and can explain your treatment options. Early diagnosis greatly increases the chance of a cure, which is why these regular screenings are so important.

Rest-assured the screening is non-invasive, comfortable, and very routine. Our caring team will explain each step of the exam and provide clear, open communication throughout the screening.

Sealants

Both adults and children can benefit from dental sealants. This simple yet effective treatment helps prevent decay forming on the surface of your teeth.

Sealants are often needed due to small pieces of debris becoming trapped in the grooves of your teeth. Daily brushing can sometimes not be enough to remove the food particles and thus decay can form. Dr. Jelsing can help prevent this by using a tooth-colored acrylic coating to fill the grooves on your tooth’s surface.

This preventive treatment only takes a few minutes per tooth but really helps protect your enamel and fight against tooth decay. In fact, food particles and other debris are deflected and easily brushed away thus keeping your smile or your child’s smile healthy.

Why Important?

Did you know more adults over 35 years of age lose teeth to gum disease than cavities? With three out of four adults affected by periodontal disease in their lifetime. Gum disease occurs when plaque is allowed to form around your gum line due to poor oral hygiene, nutrition, and daily habits. However, with a proper hygiene routine and regular professional cleanings, you can prevent gum disease from taking hold.

Professional Cleanings

Although daily brushing and flossing are a must to keep plaque build-up to a minimum, it is only through professional cleanings that you can remove it all together. Our dental hygienists offer a world-class hygiene program and gentle cleanings designed to keep your teeth looking great and your gums healthy.

At-Home Routine

As part of our hygiene program, we evaluate your brushing and flossing, which doesn’t mean we judge you but rather partner with you to make it even better. Our skilled hygienists discuss how to improve brushing techniques and the ideal resources to use i.e. toothpaste, types of floss, etc.

Nutrition

The food you eat can greatly improve your oral health. Many foods have been shown to boost your immune system and slow the growth of decay. This protects your mouth from any form of disease and helps prevent future dental health issues. Healthy foods and snacks can leave a lasting good taste in your mouth!

I was able to go to Atlanta Place Dentistry while visiting in Tulsa. My experience was incredible and it felt like I walked into a spa. The amenities are very nice! My three-year-old daughter also enjoyed it, as she was examined as well. She asked if we can go back the next day! The staff is friendly and sweet. You feel very welcomed here.

Root Canals

Firstly, it is important to note that root canals no longer have their old reputation for being painful and requiring extensive treatment. Thanks to modern technology and advanced techniques it is possible to repair your infected tooth with minimal to zero discomfort.

Root canals can be prevented with a solid hygiene routine, however, if you are suffering from a painful tooth then we can help. On occasion, the inside of a tooth can become infected due to trauma or severe decay. This can lead to pain, sensitivity, and the need for a root canal.

The root canal consists of Dr. Jelsing clearing the tooth of any decay and removing infected tissue. Once cleaned, the tooth is protected with a composite filling or crown. Our team clearly explains each step of this procedure and can provide effective sedation dentistry for our more nervous patients.

It is very important to visit us should you be experiencing tooth pain so we can save your tooth. If left untreated it could lead to an extraction or your tooth falling out. The good news is; we are here to help!

Mouthguards

Mouthguards are a helpful tool for many different lifestyles, activities, and conditions. Our team is here to help you decide if they are a good fit for your needs.

Here is a short list of just a few things that mouthguards can help with:

  • Playing sports
  • Prevent teeth grinding
  • Help with sleep
  • Realign your bite
  • TMJ treatment

Whatever reason you need a mouthguard at Atlanta Place Dentistry we have you covered. All of our mouthguards are designed for a comfortable fit and the benefit of your oral health.

Our night guards are created using an impression of your teeth and are used to prevent teeth grinding during the night. Bruxism (teeth grinding) can cause many dental issues including worn down teeth, misaligned bite, TMJ disorders, and lack of sleep. Our night guards help separate your teeth and prevent grinding.

We also provide sports guards for all ages to protect your teeth and gums during physical activity. Much like our night guards, these mouthpieces are custom-made and have been designed just for your smile.

In addition to night guards and sports guards, we offer mouthguards (or splints) for TMJ and other dental issues. Please speak to our team for more details.

Children’s Dentistry

One of the highlights of our day is when we get a visit from one of our younger patients. As a family dentist in Tulsa, OK, we are experienced at helping children of all ages develop quality hygiene habits. During a typical appointment, we put your child at ease and show them that the dentist can actually be fun. We’ll aim to keep their visit nice and short as we took a look around their mouth, check fluoride levels, and provide any advice to Mom and Dad.

Our main goal when seeing a younger patient is prevention. We, therefore, suggest regular dental visits and discuss the ideal techniques for brushing and flossing. When your family visits Dr. Jelsing they are in the best of hands and can develop long-lasting relationships and dental habits.
